Uploading Your Web Site to the Internet
Uploading is the process by which you transfer a site created offline to the Internet and it's done using software called ftp - File Transfer Protocol.
Tips
* As I found to my detriment there are ftp programs and ftp programs, some difficult to use, some childishly easy. I tried using various ftp programs, worked hard at it for over four weeks and gave up. I had committed the biggest mistake of all: thinking other people's recommendations for a good programme would fit in with my needs. They didn't!
* Two days later I decided against packing in and changed my web space provider. At the time I asked which programme he thought best for uploading sites. He said "Whatever's already on your computer if you use Windows. Microsoft FrontPage is good. So is Explorer."
* I tried both that same day and managed to upload my site in thirty minutes where previously I had tried for weeks and created nothing but heartache.
* The moral is to ask for help, but don't make a nuisance of yourself, and that help will surely be given!
* The moral is also not to keep on buying new software programs when those you already have on your computer are almost certainly compatible with your needs.
* If in doubt, ask someone, preferably someone who is selling to you. I hate to pick other people's brains, especially if I am not their customer. But a firm such as that I use for my domain names and space, people I have already spent thousands of pounds with, they're the ones to ask. And most will happily oblige with an answer, if not just because they're nice people, then because they know the only way I'll give them my business in future is if they help me now, during my learning days!
